“Dude, your on Mashable!” was the message that popped up from a friend in my chat window in March of 2009. “What??” It tuned out Sarah Evans had just written an article for Mashable, HOW TO: Find a Job on Twitter. In it, she listed a few recruiters to follow, including me, Christa Foley from Zappos, Jennifer McClure, and Jim Durbin.
Mashable is one of the world’s largest websites, and one of the top social and tech news sites on the web. I am a huge Mashable fan. So it was a thrill for me to be mentioned there. And this article created some great buzz for those of us who were referenced.
It would prove to have an ongoing impact. Early last year, bits of this article were captured for video in an NBC news story that went out to affiliates across the country. And there I was again.
And just last week I find that parts of that original article were used to create an infographic and study pulled together by OnlineDegrees.com, and re-posted on Mashable! Check out 3 Recruiters to Follow on the infographic below.
More than just buzz, this post helped generate work and clients for me, including Zappos! The point is that if you want to be hired for something, write and post about that thing in places where those you want to work with can find it (Your own blog, Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Youtube, etc.). Become a consistent resource, and people will start to associate you with that skill set. Then network with the people and companies online with whom you want to work. That’s what I did anyway.
So I just wanted to say a quick “Thank you!” to Sarah Evans, and give a shout out to job seekers who have been inspired by that post. Many of them have shared success stories with me over the years of finding jobs through social media. It seems kind of silly now to think that anyone ever doubted social media’s potential in job search.
I would love to hear updates and new success stories if you have them.

A little social can go a long way. Believe it.

The concept is pretty simple. As much as social media is used by companies to connect to people, it can also be used in reverse. The best part is, you can easily get noticed by any recruiter or headhunter melbourne without even leaving your home.
According to executive recruitment sydney, Linkedin is the place to be for your professional presence online. A lot of companies nowadays browse through linkedin to contact persons of their interest in need.
Before I was able to work in a Long Island ad agency, I used Social media platforms to sell myself by providing my portfolios and posting them online. It has been so effective because I now have the job that I want.
